1. The Maine Department of Education says 193 Maine schools are experiencing coronavirus outbreaks. During the last 30 days, schools statewide have reported more than 5,600 cases. The largest outbreak is at Lewiston High School with 68 cases over the last 30 days.
2. President Biden is confronting the new omicron coronavirus variant and potential winter surge by laying out a pandemic strategy on Thursday. The new strategy includes hundreds of vaccination sites, boosters for all adults, new testing requirements for international travelers and free at-home tests.
3. Fire destroyed the Maine Turnpike Authority facility in Litchfield last night. Millions of dollars’ worth of equipment was destroyed. Now the focus is on what to do without the trucks that typically cover dozens of miles on the highway. Officials are working to determine a cause.
