1.A day after Iran attacked two U.S. military bases, President Trump said that Iran “appears to be standing down.” Trump said no Americans were injured or killed in the attacks. He added that “the United States is ready to embrace peace with all who seek it.” Iran’s president reacted by saying that his “final answer to” the America’s “assassination” of a top Iranian general “will be to kick all U.S. forces out of the region.” (NY TIMES)

2. Thunderstorms and showers brought some relief to Australia on Wednesday as the country continues to battle deadly bushfires. The rain allowed firefighters to consolidate containment lines around more than 110 blazes. New South Wales police also say that 24 people have been charged with arson for deliberately lighting fires. (AP)

3. The flu is now widespread throughout the state. So far this flu season, 90 people have been hospitalized, and there have been six flu-related deaths. The most effective way to prevent the spread of influenza is to get vaccinated. (WGME)

5. Tom Brady seemed to indicate that he’ll return for at least one more NFL season. “I know I still have more to prove,” the quarterback wrote on IG. He’s an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, but is expected to return to the Patriots. (YARDBARKER)
