1. John Madden, the Hall of Fame football coach turned 16x emmy award broadcaster, died Tuesday morning at the age of 85. “Madden NFL Football” is one of the most successful sports video games of all-time. He was also a best selling author.
2. The COVID-19 death toll in Maine now stands at 1,492. Seventeen more Mainers have died since last Friday. 330 people are currently hospitalized, including 110 who are in critical care and 56 who are on a ventilator.
3. Mercy Hospital in Portland will open its brand-new ER department at Fore River Parkway next week. On Tuesday,18 rooms will open for patients.
4. Maine saw more migration during the COVID-19 pandemic than almost all other states. The state’s pop over a year increased by 10,000 to just more than 1,372,000. The growth was driven entirely by migration as Maine deaths exceeded births.
5. For Christmas, the Murphys (of Buxton) teamed up with their town to give FedEx driver, Roger Ingram, a plane ticket to visit his family in Jamaica. The Murphys built a lifelong friendship with Ingram. The youngest of the Murphy fam, Chase, even dressed up as a FedEx driver for Halloween, just like Roger!
