The Ocean’s trilogy is the latest franchise in Hollywood to get a gender-bent remake. This trend, which sparked controversy with last year’s all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, continues as beloved franchises receive the all-female treatment.
Very little information has been released about the film, but we do know that Ocean’s 8 is set to feature some of Hollywood’s biggest stars: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Sarah Paulson.
The film’s log line also reveals character names and a brief summary: “The tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).”
This morning, Rihanna tweeted a photo that gives us our first-look into the film.
