On Saturday family and friends gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to remember the legendary life of Earl Simmons who most people know as DMX. The memorial service was private due to COVID-19 restricitons but was live streamed on DMX’s Youtube channel. The event was organized by long time friend Swizz Beatz, Kanye West and his Sunday Service choir performed through out the service. During the Celebration for DMX his kids took to the stage to share memories of their dad. His young daughter found the courgage to rap a song she wrote for him. “Ayo I’m growing I’m learning to hold my head up/ Ayo I’m growing I’m learning to hold my head up/ Ayo I’m growing, I’m learning to hold my head up/ My daddy’s still holding my hand, so I gotta stand up,” she rapped. Before the ceremony, a procession took place with his red casket being carried by a monster truck that read “Long Live DMX”. A non-stop wave of Ruff Ryder motorcyclists accompanied the monster truck to the Barclays Center. Also on Sunday the State of New York declared his birthday December 18th Earl “DMX” Simmons Day.
