The way an artist/band gets nominated for a Grammy is interesting. It’s an “expert committee” that reviews initial nomination choices by the thousands of music professionals who make up the Recording Academy’s voting membership. In a statement to The New York Times, The Weeknd said “because of the secret committees… I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.” Harvey Mason Jr. the Academy’s interim chief executive said the organization is dedicated to improving itself. “We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset. This year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.”
