On Sunday, YouTube streamed “Dear Class of 2020” for graduates. The event featured commencement speeches and performances from Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Lizzo, Camila Cabello, BTS and others. Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama gave joint and individual addresses. “Give [your parents] a squeeze if they’re with you right now,” said Michelle. Barack interjected, “Especially the dads!” “To all those who feel different… build your own stage and make them see you,” said Beyonce in her speech. Mariah Carey joined the cast of Schitt’s Creek to thank teachers for their role in helping graduating students. “You rose to the occasion and helped these students reach the finish line,” said Carey. Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Camila Cabello and others covered U2’s “Beautiful Day,” produced by Billie Eilish’s brother Finneas. BTS gave a commencement speech and performed; they did both from the National Museum of Korea.
