Former President George W. Bush’s original artwork is coming to Maine for a special one-day exhibition on Thursday, August 6th, giving visitors the rare opportunity to see paintings created by the 43rd President of the United States!
The exhibition will take place from 9am to 4pm at the Harold Alfond Forum on the University of New England’s Biddeford campus, with proceeds benefiting the preservation of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport.
President Bush discovered a passion for painting after leaving office in 2009. He began painting in 2012 after being inspired by Winston Churchill’s essay Painting as a Pastime. Since then, he’s created hundreds of paintings featuring everything from landscapes and world leaders to military veterans and personal portraits. Organizers say the artwork reflects the values that have remained important to him throughout his life: faith, family, freedom, and community.
The fundraiser supports St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, one of Maine’s most recognizable summer chapels. Built from sea-washed stones and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the historic church has welcomed visitors since 1892 and continues to be a favorite stop for locals and tourists alike. Funds raised through the exhibition will help preserve the church and its grounds for future generations.
