One of the best community events of the summer took place on Portland’s Eastern Prom this week, as for the 16th year in a row some of the best boys and girls basketball players from across Maine put on a show! The 16th annual Summer Slam was one for the books, and we got to take in the action court side. Whether it was the high school all stars oohing and ahhing the crowd, or the middle school players showing why they’re next up, the talent was clearly on display.
As always, a big shout out to Maine’s own Nik Caner-Medley and Tru Sports for putting on an amazing community event that brings the people together for a great cause. As basketball continues to grow in the state of Maine, it’s awesome to see players even more dedicated to the craft, and the community pouring into those players. For example, though they weren’t in attendance, the Flagg family influence could be seen as the players were donning shirts that drew inspiration from Cooper’s Dallas Mavericks.
We got a chance to chop it up with current players like Carter Brathwaite of Cony, former players turned coaches, one of the sponsors in Seth from AAA Driving School, and more. If you missed out on the action, check out the recaps below, and be sure to be there for the 17th annual Summer Slam next year!
