A meaningful community event is stepping back into Portland this spring and it’s one you won’t want to miss!
The Maine Needs Community Walk & 5K Race is set for Saturday, May 23rd at 9am at Payson Park and along Back Cove. Designed for participants of all abilities, the event invites people to run, walk, roll, or stroll in support of a powerful mission: helping ensure individuals and families across Maine have access to their basic needs!
This year’s event features a timed 5K race in addition to a 3.5-mile run and walk, making it accessible whether you’re chasing a personal record or simply showing up for your community. Organizers emphasize that every step taken together helps build a stronger, more connected Maine.
Maine Needs is a Portland-based, community-powered donation center working with more than 850 providers across 265 organizations statewide. Through the efforts of volunteers and frontline workers, including caseworkers, teachers, nurses, and outreach teams, the organization helped meet the needs of more than 77,000 people last year alone! Still, the need remains significant. More than 249,000 households in Maine are currently going without basic essentials, making events like this more important than ever.
Participants can sign up individually or create teams, making it a great opportunity for friends, families, and businesses to come together while also fundraising to support the cause!
This year’s event is presented by Maine Beer Company, with additional support from local businesses and community partners helping to make the day possible.
