Barstool Sports’ founder, Dave Portnoy, embarked on a journey this summer to Maine, capturing a series of “One Bite Pizza Reviews.” It almost felt like he had set up camp here for a month, gradually unveiling these reviews over the past several weeks. After thoroughly canvassing Portland’s pizzerias, he surprised us with an unexpected bonus: a lobster roll review that deserves a shout-out to the fine folks at HighRoller Lobster Co.
These videos have taken Maine by storm, dominating conversations around water coolers and within barbershops, with one standout moment. Among the staggering tally of nearly 1600 pizza reviews conducted by Portnoy, Monte’s Fine Foods on Washington Ave in Portland ascended into the top 100, earning a monster score of 8.4. Monte’s Instagram account says they are now facing unprecedented demand.
Another local favorite, Pizzaiolo on Cumberland Ave, earned a commendable 7.5 rating from Dave. But the ultimate praise came unexpectedly from an Otto’s cashier, who couldn’t contain her enthusiasm during one of Portnoy’s reviews, exclaiming, “Pizzaiolo is better.”
Sicilian Slabs, it seems, did not quite align with Portnoy’s culinary preferences. Despite sporting Slab’s merch he handed them a score of 6.6 and Micucci Grocery received a 6.4.
