1. The family of the 22-year-old Portland man who died of a stab wound shortly after crashing his car on Brighton Avenue said Tuesday they disagree with the police conclusion that no crime was committed. Patrick Lobor died Saturday afternoon after his car struck a vehicle that had stopped for a red light at Brighton and Riverside Street, pushing that car into an SUV. Police said Lobor got out of his car, stumbled to the middle of the intersection and collapsed. Lobor died at the scene from a stab wound to the chest, according to the state medical examiner’s office. On Monday, police said they are confident there was no foul play in Lobor’s death, but have yet to explain how he came to be stabbed. (PressHerald)

2. A report prepared by the Portland Water District says human error caused a large wastewater spill from its treatment plant that washed away part of the Eastern Promenade Trail last Thursday morning and flowed into Casco Bay. The report also says more than 1.5 million gallons of wastewater spilled, not the estimated 1 million gallons reported initially. East End Trail is on schedule to be reopened sometime today. (PressHerald)

3. Senator Angus King announced on Twitter Tuesday the resolution he and Senator Susan Collins introduced to name September 25 “National Lobster Day” was passed by the senate. Lobsters are more than just a delicious meal – they’re a serious economic powerhouse for Maine’s coastal communities. Thrilled that the Senate has passed a resolution I introduced with Senator Collins naming September 25th as #NationalLobsterDay! #mepolitics

4. Two Portland restaurants have been nominated by Bon Appetit for a spot on its coveted annual list of America’s Best New Restaurants. Drifters Wife, an eclectic and recently expanded modern American restaurant on Washington Avenue that has garnered rave views, and Rose Foods, an updated version of a Jewish deli on Forest Avenue, won two of 50 spots on the food magazine’s list of nominees. The list will be whittled down to the “Hot 10” restaurants in America, and the results will be announced Aug. 14. (PressHerald)
