1. On Friday, 17-year-old Brewer High School junior, Bryce Basso, fell about 25 feet to his death while hiking in Acadia National Park. Park rangers and first responders performed CPR, but were unable to save him. Bryce was a well-liked football player described as “the nicest kid you’d meet.” (BDN)
2. A train derailment in Somerset County is being investigated after an assessment showed that it was potentially caused by melting ice and debris that washed out part of the railroad track. Fortunately, the crew members involved were not seriously hurt and no hazardous material left the tracks. (WMTW)
3. Montana passed a bill to ban TikTok in the state. A TikTok spokesperson said “We will continue to fight for TikTok users and creators in Montana whose livelihoods and First Amendment rights are threatened by this egregious government overreach.” (NYP)
4. Due to a slightly later start to the summer concert schedule, Thompson’s Point has started building a permanent concessions building and dock. Prep work is being done now and the building should be ready for winter ice skating. Construction on a 148-room hotel is also slated to start this year. (PH)
5. Patriot’s Day! Celebrated on the 3rd Mon. of April in Maine and Mass, although there is a slight difference in punctuation. Maine celebrates Patriot’s Day, while Massachusetts marks Patriots’ Day. This holiday commemorates the early battles of the Revolutionary War. State, county, and municipal offices are closed. Patriot’s Day is not a federal holiday, so federal offices and the Post Office remain open. (WMTW)
