1. Google and Facebook will be requiring that all employees returning to their US offices get vaccinated. Millinocket Regional Hospital is first in Maine to require COVID vaccines for employees.
2. Emergency help for renters is expanding in Maine as the eviction moratorium is set to expire Saturday. MaineHousing’s “Emergency Rental Assistance” program will loosen restrictions on who is eligible and for how long you can stay in the program. The program pays for back rent as well as up to 3 months of rent in the future.
3. Bangor is wet. July 2021 is the wettest on record for the city. Bangor has received over 7.4″ this month.
4. Portland will open the Deering’s Corner Roundabout, the first to be built in the city, to traffic on Friday. It is expected to improve traffic flow and safety by replacing the existing traffic signal at what had been a six-way intersection.
5. Rachel Schneider from Sanford did not advance to the final of the Olympic women’s 5,000 meter race, a half-second shy of qualifying based on time. Making her first appearance in an Olympic Games race, finished seventh in her semifinal and was 17th overall.
