1. The U.S. tops 12.2 million Covid-19 cases with over 256,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 2 new deaths and 236 new cases on Sunday. Maine’s death toll is 176 with 2,392 active cases.
2. A FDA advisory committee is set to meet Dec. 10 to discuss Pfizer’s request for an emergency use authorization for its developing COVID-19 vaccine. If approved vaccinations could begin on Dec. 12.
3. Governor Janet Mills has announced another round of rent relief for Mainers who can’t afford to pay due to the pandemic. More than $6 million is being offered up to applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis starting today.
4. The Maine Principals’ Association released its COVID-19 safety guidelines on each high school winter sport. A coin flip will replace opening tip-off for high school basketball. All sports will follow some general guidelines: athletes, officials and coaches will wear masks during competition (except for swimmers and wrestlers); no fans are allowed indoors; high-fives, hand shakes and fist bumps are prohibited; and visiting teams should come ready to compete and everyone should have their own water bottle.
5. AAA is projecting less than 50-million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving. That represents at least a 10 percent drop from last year, which would be the largest one-year drop since the 2008 recession.
