1. President Biden is expected to announce today that the CDC has updated its guidelines for activities fully vaccinated people can resume and new guidance for wearing masks outdoors. The CDC currently recommends fully vaccinated people should still wear a mask and stay six feet apart from others in public. (CNN)
2. The U.S. tops 32.1 million covid-19 cases with more than 572,000 related deaths. Maine tops 60,000 total COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 229 new cases on Monday keeping Maine’s death toll at 772 with 114 Mainers currently hospitalized. (WMTW)
3. The state announced a broadband expansion plan on Monday. “High-speed internet today is as fundamental as electricity, heat and water,” Gov. Mills said. According to Mills 85,000 Maine locations do not meet the minimum upload and download standards for high-speed internet. (WMTW)
4. Maine’s population increased by 2.6% over the last decade according to last year’s census. The census determines how many representatives each state gets in Congress. Maine will retain its two members of the U.S. House of Representatives. (WMTW)
