1. The U.S. tops 4.7 million coronavirus cases with over 155,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported one new coronavirus-related death and 12 new cases on Monday. The statewide death toll is 124 with 450 active cases. (WMTW)
2. Portland Public Schools Superintendent is recommending a hybrid learning scenario for students this fall. At the high school level, ninth graders will be split into two groups alphabetically by last name. Students in Group A will have in-person learning Monday and Thursday and will do remote learning on Tuesday and Friday. Students in Group B will have in-person learning Tuesday and Friday, with remote learning Monday and Thursday. The in-person days will be three hours long. Students in grades 10 through 12 will learn remotely four days per week. Students will have access to in-person or virtual office hours and support with teachers. The plan requires school board approval and could face changes before being implemented. (WMTW)
3. The Portland City Council voted Monday night to ban the use of facial recognition technology. Councilor Pious Ali proposed the amendment to prevent racial profiling. The Portland Police Department and the city said they do not use the technology. (NEWS CENTER)
4. Isaias made landfall at 11:10 p.m. in southern North Carolina as a category one hurricane. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maine and New Hampshire. Heavy rain, strong winds and some thunderstorms in Maine Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Some power outages are likely. (WGME)
