1. 38 people were killed in separate lightning strikes across two states in India on Sunday. 11 people died while visiting a 12th-century fort. Lightning strikes are frequent during India’s monsoon season; nearly 3,000 people were killed in India in 2019 by lightning. (The Guardian)
2. The Maine CDC classifies browntail moth caterpillars as a public health nuisance. Browntail moths have already begun laying clusters of eggs in fuzzy brown egg sacks that will become next year’s toxic caterpillars. Now is the time to eliminate as many of those egg sacks as possible. (BDN)
3. UMaine pitcher Nick Sinacola was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round with pick 206 in the MLB Draft Monday. In June he became the first UMaine player in more than 30 years to be a first-team All-American. (News Center)
