1. Schools in the L.A. Unified School District will not reopen in the fall and will continue on with online learning only until further notice. Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos have threatened to pull funding from any district that does not fully reopen. It’s not clear if Trump would be able to actually carry out that threat.

2. The U.S. tops 3.3 million coronavirus cases with over 135,000 deaths. The Main CDC reported no new deaths and 19 new cases on Monday. The statewide death toll remains at 114 with 436 active cases. More than 3,000 Mainers have recovered from the virus.

3. The Portland City Council voted to form a Racial Equity Steering Committee to address systemic racism. Mayor Kate Synder said the 9 to 13 member committee would be made up of members of the city council, people with experience in public safety, and housing. Many councilors had concerns, including making sure people of color and others who need to be heard the most, get chosen.

4. Mainers head to the polls for the Democratic U.S. Senate primary and the Republican primary for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. There are also two statewide bond questions on the ballot. You can find your polling location HERE – https://www1.maine.gov/portal/government/edemocracy/voter_lookup.php

5. A sealed copy of the 1985 Super Mario Bros. set a world record for highest price ever paid for a video game. The Nintendo Entertainment System game sold for $114,000. The unopened and sealed copy of the game is extremely rare because it was part of a short production run with a cardboard hang-tab.
