1. A Mass man tried to open a plane’s door on a flight from LA to Boston and then tried to stab a flight attendant in the neck with a broken metal spoon. He was tackled and restrained by passengers and arrested at Logan. (PH)
2. A new legislative proposal could cut tuition in half for Maine high school graduates who attend UMaine. Enrollment in UMaine is down and the bill’s sponsor said the proposal was only fair given the state is now offering high school graduates “free tuition” to attend a Maine community college. (PH)
3. Starting March 20th Amtrak Downeaster passengers will not be allowed to purchase alcoholic drinks when the train is in NH. Alcohol served in NH must have been purchased in NH. A routine audit showed the Downeaster was violating this law. (PH)
4. For the 2nd year in a row South Portland boys bball hoisted the gold ball trophy after beating Portland 52-42 in the Class AA state championship. Oxford Hills showed why they were the top seeded team in the state, defeating Gorham 62-25 in the Class AA girls state championship. (PH)
5. For the first time in the Can-Am’s 30 year history all three race winners were women. Katherine Langlais of Glenwood, New Brunswick won the 250. Diane Marquis and Florence Shaw of Quebec City won the 30 and 100 in Fort Kent. (NCM)
