1. The Maine CDC says 40 people are on ventilators. That’s a record number of COVID-19 patients in Maine who can’t breathe on their own. According to the Maine CDC, 194 people are in the hospital with the virus and 67 are in the ICU. (WGME)
2. Portland’s City Council voted to postpone action on a proposed new mask mandate. Mayor Kate Snyder recommended action be delayed until the council’s next meeting scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20. Snyder also requested Portland-specific data on COVID-19 community transmission. (WMTW)
3. Skeletal remains found near the I-295 overpass in Falmouth may be those of Anneliese Heinig who went missing in November 2019. Anneliese was last seen walking away from her car parked on the shoulder of I-295. The remains were found by a hunter on a kayak on Sunday. (WGME)
4. The University of Maine at Farmington is being recognized as a top 10 college in five separate categories by the U.S. News & World Report including social mobility. The social mobility category recognizes how well schools provide affordable access to higher education to students from lower income families. (WGME)
