1. Joe Biden has picked California Senator Kamala Harris to be his vice-presidential running mate. If elected, she’ll be the first female vice president in American history. She’s now the first Black and Asian-American woman to be a major-party nominee for the vice presidency. (VOX)
2. The U.S. tops 5.1 million coronavirus cases w/ over 164,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported one new death and one new case on Tuesday. Maine’s coronavirus-related death toll is 126 with 364 active cases. (WMTW)
3. A new Postal Service policy, from the postmaster general, calls for no extra trips and no overtime. The union says that led to about 65,000 pieces of mail being left behind Monday in Scarborough, rather than wait an extra 10 minutes for the mail to be ready. Some question whether President Trump’s claims about mail-in ballot fraud is behind this. “They’re putting fear in the customer whether we’re reliable or not, and we are reliable, and our employees want the mail delivered on time,” Local Postal Workers Union President Scott Adams said. 4. The Big Ten and Pac-12 have canceled their fall football seasons due to coronavirus concerns. Michigan State players were pulled off the practice field on Tuesday once the decision was reached. Their coach, Mel Tucker, said that the league would try to play in the spring instead. (ESPN)
5. Later this month, Dunkin’ will be bringing coffee-based cereals to supermarket shelves. Dunkin’ coffee concentrate (Mocha Latte or Caramel Macchiato) is added to crunchy balls mixed with flavored marshmallow pieces. Each serving will contain as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. (AP)
