1. Donald Trump announced in a video that he will not sign the coronavirus relief bill approved by Congress. Trump was critical of the bill’s inclusion of billions of dollars in foreign aid. He demanded that Congress remove “unnecessary items” from the bill and increase direct payments from $600 per person to $2,000.
2. On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci publicly received the Moderna coronavirus vaccine. “As important or more important, as a symbol to the rest of the country that I feel extreme confidence in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine and I want to encourage everyone who has the opportunity to get the vaccine,” Fauci said.
3. The U.S. tops 18.2 million Covid-19 cases with over 322,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 10 new covid related deaths and 458 new cases on Tuesday. Maine’s death toll is 303 with 8,556 active cases. 170 Mainers are currently hospitalized w/ covid-19.
4. Governor Janet Mills has extended Maine’s state of civil emergency through Jan. 20, 2021. A state of civil emergency allows Maine to deploy all available tools to respond to and contain COVID-19, according to the Governor’s Office. This is Mills’ 10th extension of the state of civil emergency.
