1. The waters and the death toll continued to rise Tuesday in rain-battered Louisiana, as flooding of historic levels swept anew into some communities and stubbornly lingered in hundreds more. 2. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four fishermen off the coast of Southwest Harbor early today. Coast Guard Officials said the fishing vessel Lydia and Maya was taking on water and sent a distress signal around midnight. (WMTW)
3. Homeless people living in tents behind a Portland shopping area have been ordered to vacate. People living in the dozens of tents in a stretch of wooded area between the turnpike and the shopping center are being asked to pack up and move out, and if they don’t comply by Monday, they’ll be issued a criminal trespass order. Businesses said the camp has become a nuisance, and police said things have gotten out of control with domestic violence, violent crimes and health and safety hazards. (WMTW)
4. NASA just released their temperature data for July, and the results are historic—if not exactly surprising to anyone who stepped outdoors at any point this summer. Last month, the Earth was the hottest it has been since records started being kept 136 years ago. (Complex)
