1. The number of patients with COVID-19 in Maine hospitals climbed to 107 on Thursday, the highest level since March 18. Aroostook County moved to high risk for virus transmission.
2. Federal data ranks Maine as the worst state for OUIs in the Northeast. Police say it only takes two or three drinks to be over the legal limit and they’re seeing an increase of impaired drivers high on marijuana, opioids and prescription drugs.
3. Interstate 295 will close at 7 p.m. Friday between Exits 9 and 10 in Portland so that crews can replace the bridge over Veranda Street. The highway is not scheduled to reopen until 11 a.m. Monday, meaning the Monday morning commute will be impacted.
4. Portland Sea Dogs and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies game last night turned into an all-out brawl after Sea Dogs first baseman Tyreque Reed was hit by a pitch. Reed made it only halfway on his journey to first base before Pitcher Renteria said something. Reed charged towards Renteria and leveled him with a right hand.
5. Cooper Flagg, who led the Nokomis Regional High School boys basketball team to its first ever state championship, is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 2025 recruiting class by ESPN. Cooper and his twin brother, Ace, recently announced they would be transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida.
