- Police in New York honored the officers who were attacked on New Year’s Eve, allegedly by a 19-year-old from Maine. They were given “Cop of the Month” awards. Trevor Bickford of Wells pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Federal Court. (WGME)
- Gov. Mills unveiled her ‘Offshore Wind Roadmap’ to expand wind power in the Gulf of Maine on Thursday. Mills said the increase of price in heating oil adds urgency to making sure another alternative of energy is available. (NCM)
- A bipartisan bill that would allow police to impose fines of $150 to $500 on drivers who do not clear their vehicles within 48 hours of a storm is being considered in Maine. New Hampshire enacted “Jessica’s Law” in 2001 after Jessica Smith was killed in a multi-vehicle crash caused by flying ice, with fines ranging from $250 to $1,000.
- Maine’s $1.35 billion Mega Millions winner chose the lump-sum payment of $723,564,144 before taxes, which comes out to $498 million after taxes. Maine will receive about $51-million and more than $173 million goes to the fed gov. (WGME)
