1. A major winter storm will bring near blizzard conditions to much of Maine on Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the entire area beginning Saturday evening and ending Sunday evening. Most areas will see 12 to 18 inches of snow from the storm. 2. The world-famous Westbrook ice disk is once again spinning in the Presumpscot River. There were concerns Wednesday afternoon when the disk crashed into shore and stopped spinning.(WGME)
3. Day 28 of the government shutdown. Pornhub has seen an uptick in traffic during the government shutdown. There was a 5.94 percent increase in daily use during the week of January 7 versus the weeks prior to the shutdown. Categories that have seen more traffic include “Outdoors,” “Threesomes,” and “Old/Young.” (Mashable)
4. The Little Giant market at 81 Clark St. on Portland’s West End will close in February and reopen on March 1 as an all-day cafe and wine bar to be called Giant. When the space re-opens, they plan to serve breakfast, baked goods, soups, salads and sandwiches there every day, and host weekly evening pop-ups with changing menus. Customers will also be able to buy wine, beer, and heat-and-eat meals at Giant. In the summer, there will be patio seating. (Press Herald)
5. Costco is selling a $90 tub of mac-and-cheese that weighs 27 pounds and lasts 20 years. The Chef’s Banquet Macaroni & Cheese, listed under Emergency Kits & Supplies, offers 180 servings in separate pouches of elbow pasta and cheddar cheese sauce. That comes out to two servings per dollar. (CNBC)
