1. It is vaccine deadline day for UMaine students. As of today all students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or risk missing out on the rest of the semester.
According to the University of Maine System, 97-percent percent of students are vaccinated. Students who received an exemption will need to undergo weekly testing. Students who have not verified their vaccination status will be withdrawn from their fall courses on October 31 with no refund. (WGME)
2. A Portland Public School Ed-tech has been arrested and is facing charges in multiple sex crime cases. One of those charges is Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Benjamin Conroy is also accused of exposing himself to a woman on the Western Prom, and pressing himself against her. Conroy worked at Ocean Ave elementary. Portland’s superintendent says the exploitation charges do involve a student. (WGME)
3. There will be no state unemployment benefits for health care workers who are fired for refusing to get employer-mandated vaccinations against COVID-19, state officials said Thursday. The state said it will begin enforcing the rule on Oct. 29. (WMTW)
