1. On Thursday morning, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford told the Senate Judiciary Committee she was “100 percent” sure that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was the person who sexually assaulted her when she was 15. She stated that he “groped me and tried to take off my clothes,” and once again asserted that he tried to prevent her from screaming by putting his hand over her mouth. Later, Ford recalled how Kavanaugh and his friend in the room at the time, Mark Judge, considered the incident lighthearted. “I was underneath one of them while the two laughed.” (Variety)

2. On Thursday, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee through tears that he never sexually assaulted Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and accused Democrats of orchestrating a “grotesque and coordinated character assassination” against him. He also called his confirmation process for the U.S. Supreme Court a “national disgrace” which had “permanently destroyed” his reputation. President Donald Trump later took to Twitter to praise Kavanaugh. “Judge Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him. His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting,” he wrote. “Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!” (Variety)

3. A search is underway for the body of a skydiving instructor who somehow became detached from his partner during a tandem jump from an airplane Thursday afternoon. The instructor and his tandem jump partner were about one mile above the ground when they became separated, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. The instructor did not have a backup parachute. “The fall was not survivable,” McCausland said. The incident led to a search of the area near Skydive New England in Lebanon, where the flight originated. Maine Game Wardens, forestry personnel and police in an aircraft conducted the search, but were unable to find the instructor’s body. (Press Herald)

4. Central Maine Power is reporting that squirrels are causing a rash of power outages in southern and central Maine. CMP says their line workers are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Officials say rodent interference is common and cannot be avoided. (WGME)
