1. Following a record-setting, lethal heat wave that hit the Southwest U.S. on summer’s first day, more than a dozen wildfires have popped up all throughout the region as of late Monday. (CNN)
2. An ordinance which raises the minimum age to buy tobacco in Portland from 18 to 21 passed unanimously Monday night. It does not affect the minimum age to possess or use tobacco, which will remain at 18. (WMTW)
3. For the first time in nearly five decades, there was a full moon during the summer solstice. A full moon in June was called a strawberry moon by Native Americans. For them, it signified that fruits, such as strawberries, were ripe for the picking. The last time this took place was 1967. (WCSH)
4. The National Frozen Food Corp. issued a voluntary recall of frozen peas and mixed vegetables due to possible contamination of Listeria. Frozen mixed vegetables and peas packaged by Bountiful Harvest, First Street, Great Value, Live Smart, Market Pantry and Sprout between the dates of September 2 and June 2 are included in the recall.
