1. Dozens of Democrats occupied the House chamber for 25 ½ hours, demanding Republicans bring gun control legislation to the floor. Maine Rep. Chellie Pingree was one of the first Democratic House members to start the sit-in just before noon Wednesday. The protest wound down at about 1 p.m. Thursday. The action made a splash, but Republicans control the House, and even if they did bring gun control legislation to the floor for a vote, that legislation would almost certainly fail. (WMTW)
2. Westbrook police are looking into a report of a large snake at Riverbank Park. A woman told police she saw the snake near the playground on both the Main Street and Brown Street side of the Presumpscot River. She told police the snake was as long as a truck with a head the size of a small ball. Police do not believe the report is a hoax. (WMTW)
3. No American men’s basketball player has won four Olympic medals. LeBron James will pass on making history. Via his agent, James told Team USA on Thursday he will not make the trip to Rio for the 2016 Summer Games. (BR)
4. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Ben Simmons as the #1 pick of the 2016 NBA Draft last night. Despite receiving a lot of interest from teams looking to trade into the 3rd slot, Boston stayed put and took Jaylen Brown of California. (Boston)
