1. Students at 23 Maine schools will walk out of classes at 10 a.m. Wednesday to protest Congress’ lack of action in addressing gun violence in schools, according to actionnetwork.org. In nearly every midcoast high school — from Freeport to Topsham to Boothbay Harbor — students are scheduled to remain outside for 17 minutes — one for each life lost when a former student opened fire Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Most superintendents have taken no position, and some have taken steps to turn the action into a “teachable moment.” At Lisbon High School, while administrators have planned a moment of silence and will allow students to meet in a designated area of the school to express their feelings, those who do participate in the walkout will be subject to disciplinary action, Superintendent Richard A. Green wrote in a letter to parents. (WGME)

2. A winter storm watch has been issued ahead of a Tuesday nor’easter that will bring heavy snow to Maine. Slick travel with reduced visibility will lead to closings and cancellations. Snow starts overnight tonight and will carry into Wednesday. Travel will be very difficult, especially during the evening commute on tuesday. Wind gusts over 30 mph are likely and may lead to scattered, but not widespread, outages. Accumulations of 10 to 14 inches are expected. (WMTW)

3. Thirty-one men ranging in age from 19 to 30-plus and in weight from 160 to well over 300 pounds signed up for the opportunity to earn an invitation to the Mammoths’ training camp, scheduled to begin March 19. Many of them paid $60 to register, or $80 if they waited until Sunday. James Fuller, the conductor of the open tryout, promised each of those who tried out Sunday a personal email that will include either a contract, an invitation for a two-day workout with the team, or a thank you for coming out and a request to be alert should the team need reinforcements as the season progresses. Fuller said he would decide by Wednesday which five players will join the other 35 already under contract. A three-week training camp will pare those 40 down to 24 on an active roster, with 21 eligible to suit up for the season opener April 7 in Worcester, Massachusetts. (Press Herald)

4. March Madness is upon us! The field of 68 teams is set for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, with play-in games commencing Tuesday. Virginia, Villanova, Kansas, and Xavier are the top seeds in their respective regions. This year’s Final Four games will be played on March 31 and April 2 in San Antonio. (ESPN)

5. Girl Scout Day. This day celebrates a woman named Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, who organized the first ever Girl Scout meeting in Savannah, Georgia, with just 18 girls from the surrounding area.
