1. Hurricane Jose remains a Category 1 hurricane. Tropical storm watches have been issued for parts of the eastern seaboard, including southern New England. The National Hurricane Center’s official track of Jose remains off shore. While a direct hit from Jose is still unlikely, a glancing blow would affect Maine. Rain totals Tuesday into Wednesday of 1 to 3 inches for southern and coastal Maine and New Hampshire are possible. Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour Wednesday are possible. (WMTW)

2. Authorities say a 66-year-old Maine man died after becoming ill while hiking up Mount Washington. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Rolf Diamon of Windham was hiking up the Lion Head Trail with his son Saturday morning when he became sick and collapsed. Authorities said Diamon died after about an hour despite efforts to resuscitate him. (BDN)

3. A few weeks after the Bangor City Council voted to recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, officials in Portland are considering doing the same. The City Council will vote today on the proposal, which seeks to honor those who lived on the continent before it was colonized by western Europeans. (WMTW)

4. There’s a petition to turn the lobster into an emoji. Luke Holden of Luke’s lobster is the creator of the petition. The online petition at change.org has nearly 4,000 supporters. (WMTW)

5. National Cheeseburger Day. This celebration of one of the most iconic and delicious foods of the USA has been taking place every year since the early part of the Roaring 20s era.
