1. Maine State Police divers using sonar searched the Presumpscot River Wednesday without finding a trace of a missing Richmond woman. Anneliese Heinig, a mother of two, was last seen early on Nov. 26 walking along 295 near where it crosses the river in Falmouth. (PRESS HERALD)

2. Bishop Richard Malone, who weathered criticism in two states over his handling of child sexual abuse allegations among the clergy, resigned Wednesday. Malone, a Massachusetts native, led Maine’s Roman Catholic Diocese from 2004 to 2012. His former secretary secretly recorded him calling a then-active priest “a sick puppy,” but Malone took no immediate action to remove him. (WGME)

3. Multiple Main towns, including Bath, Arundel, and Augusta say they don’t have enough snow plow drivers. Generational turnover is partly to blame. (WGME)

4. On Wednesday, researchers discussed the success of a key animal test involving a new, star-shaped birth control capsule. The capsule unfolds into sex chambers when it’s in the stomach slowly releasing medication over a period of a few weeks. In theory, women would be able to use this capsule once a month. (AP)

5. With the holiday shopping season now in full swing, Portland is inviting you to celebrate “Elfternoon.” City officials held a kick-off for the celebration Wednesday at the Androscoggin Bank. From noon to 2 p.m. on every Wednesday until Christmas, participating stores will offer treats to shoppers. (WGME)
