1. Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills has signed an executive order aimed at helping the state deal with an opioid epidemic. Her order Wednesday calls for making the overdose antidote more widely available; logging and mapping overdoses to track “hotspots” in real time; implementing medication-assisted therapy programs; and creating targeted prevention programs. At least five women who attended a popular event Saturday at a Saco bar and restaurant believe they were drugged with a substance that caused them to rapidly black out or become violently ill, the bar’s manager said. Police are investigating whether someone intentionally spiked drinks at a winter festival at Run of the Mill Public House and Brewery. Detecting such drugs is difficult, the Saco deputy police chief said, because traces of the substances leave the body quickly, and hospitals need to know what they’re looking for to detect them. 3. Since 1993, Make-A-Wish Maine has been granting wishes for children who are critically ill all over the state. On Wednesday, in Guilford — wish number 1,500 was to a six-year-old boy battling a brain tumor. 6-year-old Abel Richardson is battling a brain tumor in his brain stem. His wish was to have a superhero themed Go-Kart. (NewsCenterMaine)
4. Westbrook’s world famous ice disk started moving again Wednesday, but it also melted some more, indicating that the natural phenomenon’s final days are numbered. The Presumpscot River disk has lost its circular shape and most of its beauty, which in its early days, at least from the air, made it look like a blue moon. As the disk has deteriorated, it has started to flatten out and spread across the river. (Press Herald)
5. If you send a message over Facebook Messenger and regret it, you can now take it back, but you only have a short amount of time to do it. Users can delete messages up to 10 minutes after pressing send. Recipients will be notified of the action, but will not see the message that was removed. (WGME)
