1. Wednesday night, the Lewiston community gathered for a vigil, after a 12-year-old Rayan Issa died in an apparent drowning while on a field trip. As of now, all school-based water activities are banned in the district until further notice. School officials say Tuesday, the 7th grader was playing football in the water with his friends within the safety area when he went under and never came back up. (WGME)

Following recent allegations that its owner and former publisher, Kevin Thomas, sexually harassed a female employee in 2010, the assets of magazine publishing company Maine Media Collective have been sold, the company said Thursday. “I’m thrilled to tell you that Maine magazine, Maine Home+Design and Old Port magazine have new owners,” said the company’s current publisher and CEO, Andrea King, in an email. “State 23 Media, a newly formed (limited liability company), has acquired all print, event and digital media assets from Maine Media Collective. 3. The Wells-Ogunquit school committee voted unanimously Wednesday to remove Native American imagery associated with school mascots. The vote ended a seven-month study and discussion of the Wells High “Warriors” nickname and its associated “Warrior head” logo, along with other Native American-themed imagery. The discussion pitted those who considered the imagery offensive or insensitive against some residents who viewed it as a proud part of the school’s tradition. (Press Herald)
