1. President Trump on Wednesday bowed to relentless pressure in the US and around the world and signed an executive order that the White House said would keep families who cross into the US illegally together. “You’re going to have a lot of happy people,” Trump said as he signed the order, billing it as the most significant presidential move on immigration in half a century — even though he was fixing a problem his own administration had caused. The most glaring deficiency of the President’s executive order was that it stunningly did nothing for more than 2,300 children already separated from their parents, some of whom have been held in cage-like conditions or have been sent to facilities around the country. 2. Attorney General Janet Mills won the Democratic nomination for governor on Wednesday following the nation’s first use of ranked-choice voting to decide a statewide election. After days of scanning, downloading and certifying ballots, the Secretary of State’s Office ran all of the results from the June 12 election through the ranked-choice voting tabulation software. The result: Mills won the seven-person primary with 54.1 percent of the vote. (Press Herald)
3. Dogs can recognize a range of human facial expressions and respond to them accordingly, according to a new study published in the journal Learning and Behavior. Researchers found that when they placed photos of human faces expressing anger, sadness and fear in front of dogs, their heart rate increased. The dogs also tended to turn their heads to the left. Meanwhile, photos of neutral and surprised facial expressions did not affect heart rate by much. They also caused the dogs to turn their heads right. (UPI)

On the Russian social-media site VK Tuesday, Burger King Russia offered women money to get knocked up by World Cup stars. “Burger King, within the framework of social responsibility, has appointed a reward for girls who get pregnant from the stars of world football,” the post (translated to English) read. “Each will receive 3 million rubles, and a lifelong supply of Whoppers. For these girls, it will be possible to get the best football genes, and will lay down the success of the Russian national team on several generations ahead. Forward! We believe in you!” Suffice it to say, once this post made the rounds, Burger King Russia was forced to apologize and take it down.
