1. A public hearing will be held this morning on recreational marijuana in Maine. State officials are looking for feedback on the rules for recreational marijuana. The Maine Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP) says marijuana could be available in stores in early 2020. Voters in Maine approved legal recreational use of marijuana in a 2016 vote. The draft rules must still be approved by the Maine Legislature before they can be implemented. (WGME)
2. Portland is raising its parking fees, in exchange for a smaller property tax rate hike. It will now cost an extra 25 cents per hour to park at meters and kiosks, raising the price to $1.75 per hour. The city expects this to generate $500,000 in revenue. When they approved this plan on Monday, they also lowered the property tax increase from 4 percent to 3.7 percent. The changes will take effect in July. (WGME)
3. The Social Security Administration has released a list of the most popular names of babies born in Maine in 2018. Charlotte topped the list for girls for another year. Eighty-one babies were named Charlotte last year. Oliver remained the top name for Maine boys, with 77. There were more than 12,000 babies born in Maine in 2018. (WMTW)
