1. Portland city officials had two options Tuesday night: Approve one large homeless shelter with a capacity of up to 150 or build multiple smaller shelters. The city’s Health and Human Services Committee voted for one large new shelter, but the crowd seemed split on the issue. Those for the “megashelter” say it will be more cost efficient and is backed by health providers. (WGME)
2. Maine brewers have joined Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s fundraiser for California wildfire relief efforts by brewing a special beer and donating all profits. Among the 1,000-plus breweries to answer the call are Portland brewers Allagash Brewing Co., Foundation Brewing Co., Liquid Riot Bottling Co. and Urban Farm Fermentory, as well as Kennebunkport Brewing Co., Mason’s Brewing Co. in Brewer and Tributary Brewing Co. in Kittery, according to a list on Sierra Nevada’s website. All sales will go to the Sierra Camp Fire Relief Fund. (Press Herald)
3. For Peter Ricker at Wallingford’s Fruit House in Auburn, tree theft has become an annual nightmare before Christmas. For the past decade, Ricker says thieves have been taking four to six trees. “This year we’re in our second real weekend of Christmas tree sales and we’ve already been pushing that number,” Ricker told WGME. Ricker says he has caught thieves inside, and outside, of his store. (WGME)
4. A teenager in Nepal just secured a Guinness World Record by dancing solo for 126 hours. the 17-year-old Bandana Nepal began her quest on Friday and completed it on Wednesday at the Big Foodland restaurant in Kathmandu. The previous record was set in 2011 at 123 hours and 15 minutes. (UPI)
