1. The Maine CDC reported 867 new COVID cases, the largest reported in one day, but that does include a backlog. There are signs of optimism. Maine’s seven-day positivity rate dipped to 4.6 percent on Wednesday from 6.1 percent two weeks ago. (PRESS HERALD)
2. All schools in MSAD 6, as well as Portland and Old Town High Schools, are closed today because of a social media threat. Officials at Bonny Eagle High were made aware of a social media post showing a photo of handwriting on a wall that described an act of violence. Old Town High officials say the lost day will be added to the end of the school year unless someone comes forward to identify the person who made the threat. (WGME)
3. The Lewiston School Committee has decided to remove the Jewish holidays of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana from the school calendar as official school holidays after the committee voted last spring to add them to the calendar. (WMTW)
4. The latest fall foliage report is out and much of Maine is now seeing high levels of color. The highest level of color is in northern Maine through the mountains of northwestern Maine. You can expect southern Maine to pop in the next week or two. (WGME)
5. Slugger The Sea Dog is one of 24 mascots selected for possible induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame. Voting begins on Sunday, October 3. Slugger will need to be in the top ten to move onto the final round. (WMTW)
