1. Wex and Idexx won’t say whether they’ll suspend doing business in Russia. The Maine-based companies did say they will abide by the sanctions imposed by the U.S. and Europe. Companies that have said they will suspend operations in Russia include Ikea, H&M stores, Boeing, Airbus, Netflix, Apple, Dell and more. Google and TikTok also blocked Russian state media channels from their platforms.
2. The average price for gas is now $4.16 in Maine. A Maine lawmaker is pushing to suspend the state’s gas tax of 30 cents, using some of the budget surplus money Governor Janet Mills was going to use for those $750 relief checks. The proposal would remove an estimated $173 million from the highway fund.
3. Maine’s COVID-19 hospitalizations declined slightly on Monday, dropping to the lowest level since late August. The Maine CDC reported 142 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.
4. Gov. Janet Mills officially launched her reelection campaign this morning. She tweeted Maine has come a long way since I took office in 2019, but our work isn’t done.
5. Gov. Janet Mills has nominated District Court Judge Rick E. Lawrence to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. If he’s confirmed, he will be the first Black justice on the state’s highest court, 202 years after statehood.
