1. The United States coronavirus cases top 1,180,000. America’s death toll stands at more than 68,900. A model often cited by the White House now forecasts that 134,000 people will die of the virus in the country.
2. The Maine CDC reported 20 additional coronavirus cases in the state on Monday but no new deaths linked to the disease. The statewide totals are 1,205 confirmed cases and 57 deaths. There were 428 active cases in Maine as of Monday. That is an increase of six from Sunday’s update.
3. Despite having his restaurant license pulled for violating Gov. Mills’ stay-at-home order, the owner of Sunday River Brewing said he’ll be opening again today.
4. Tirdy Works, A TV show about a Maine woman who makes art and other knick knacks out of moose droppings will premiere today on truTV. “In order to make all their dreams come true, Mary must bring the townspeople together to help her growing business, all the while juggling her family and a house full of turds,” according to the synopsis on truTV’s website.
5. Cinco de Mayo. Today, the “fifth of May,” is the day to celebrate Mexican culture, language and heritage. A day that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. In 2005, the United States Congress issued a resolution inviting the President to encourage citizens to celebrate the day. Have a few drinks and enjoy Mexican food today.
