Law enforcement agencies from far and wide, as well as hundreds of members of the public, paid their final respects and said their last goodbyes to Corporal Eugene Cole as the funeral procession from Skowhegan led to a celebration of life service in Bangor. Cpl. Cole was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 25. He was 61 years old. (NewsCenterMaine)

The University of Southern Maine removed paintings by a convicted sex offender from a campus art show in Lewiston because displaying them might “serve as a trigger” for victims of abuse, USM President Glenn Cummings said in a statement issued Monday afternoon. The university removed the three paintings by Bruce Habowski, 51, of Waterville from the group exhibition in early April after receiving a complaint that he was convicted of sex crimes in 1999. 3. Starting Monday, an Obamacare rule requiring restaurants and other food retailers with more than 20 locations to post calorie counts went into effect. UPI notes that the provision was included in 2011’s Affordable Care Act, but that the restaurant industry succeeded in getting its implementation delayed three times. However, Trump’s Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Scott Gottlieb, announced in a blog post late last week that the counts would finally be required, writing, “Surveys show consumers overwhelmingly want this information. And many use it to improve their diets and health.” Gottlieb added that menu-labeling has been shown to persuade people to order less caloric food when they visit various food outlets. (UPI)
