1. The United States coronavirus cases top 825,000: America’s death toll stands at more than 45,00. The US CDC director warned the coronavirus outbreak could be “even more difficult” next winter because it will coincide with flu season. (CNN)
2. The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a $438 billion coronavirus aid bill on Tuesday. $331 billion of the aid will go to boost the small business loan program that ran out of money last week. $75 billion will go to hospitals, while $25 billion will be used to boost testing. The bill will now be sent to the House, who have been called to Washington for a Thursday vote. (AP)
3. As of Tuesday’s Maine CDC briefing 36 Maine residents have died from COVID-19. There have been 888 coronavirus cases reported, now in all 16 Maine counties. 139 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness. 443 people have recovered. (WGME)
4. The Greater Portland METRO is now requiring all passengers to wear a face covering when they ride. Passengers who do not wear a face covering may not be allowed on or may be removed. (WGME)
5. The University of Maine at Farmington announced it will hold an outdoor Commencement celebration for this year’s graduating class, Saturday, August 22, 2020. The UMF President said “The Class of 2020 will come together as Farmington graduates have for over 150 years, with fond memories, excited families and pride in a job well done.
