3. This week, students in RSU 2 schools will be issued RFID cards to record when they board and exit school buses. The cards do not track the whereabouts of students but will record the location where students tap to enter and exit. District leaders consider the system a safety enhancement but some parents view the technology as an invasion of privacy.
4. The average price for a gallon of gas in Maine has dropped below $4 for the first time since March. According to AAA, the statewide average is $3.99 a gallon. The cheapest gas station in Maine is Panda Market in Buxton.
5. Data from the Maine Community College System shows SMCC had the largest number of new students enrolled from Fall 2021 to Fall 2022. The state’s free tuition program that started this year led to an “unprecedented” spike in enrollment and brought nearly 600 new students to campus.
