1. British politics was thrown into chaos and Brexit into doubt Wednesday as Conservative lawmakers triggered a no-confidence vote in Prime Minister Theresa May that will see her removed as party and government leader if she loses. The vote would be held in Parliament between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, with the results announced soon after. The announcement throws Britain’s already rocky path out of the European Union, which it is due to leave in March, into further chaos. (Press Herald)

2. The city of Portland hosted a community discussion over the future of the working waterfront Tuesday night. The city has announced a proposed six-month moratorium for the Central Waterfront District. There are clashing opinions, like proposals for development, but fishermen say they want to protect the wharves for the next generation. The council will vote on the moratorium at the December 17 meeting, where public comment will also take place. (WGME)

3. Portland International Jetport has set a new all-time annual record for passengers flying in and out of Portland, said Assistant Airport Director Zachary Sundquist. More than 2 million passengers have used the jetport this year, with 20 days still left in December. Jetport officials have scheduled a press conference for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the main terminal to celebrate surpassing the 2 million passenger mark. Cake will be served. (Press Herald)

4. TIME Magazine has named killed and imprisoned journalists as their 2018 Person of the Year. That group includes murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi CAHSHOWGEE, two Reuters journalists imprisoned in Myanmar MEEANMAR and the five staffers killed at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. The honor was revealed on Tuesday’s episode of TODAY after the 10 finalists were revealed on Monday’s show. It was the first time the honor was given to people who are no longer alive. President Trump came in second and Robert Mueller came in third. (NBC News)

5. Reactions to a Montreal church’s Hipster Nativity Scene have been mixed. In it, Joseph is taking a selfie of himself, Jesus and Mary, while Mary holds Starbucks coffee with her left shoulder and bra strap visible. The three wise men are riding Segways and bearing gifts in Amazon boxes, and the manger has solar panels. Instead of a donkey, there’s a cow with “100 percent organic” stamped on his rear. (Montreal Gazette)
