1. New coronavirus cases around the world fell 21 percent in the last week. Third week straight with a decline. Scientists warn that it’s still possible that more transmissible and deadly variants could emerge if the virus is allowed to spread uncontrolled.
2. Spring temperatures today, hitting 60 in some areas. A winter storm watch has been issued for Friday for southern and central Maine. Snow will likely start falling across York County by 4am and then spread north. Most areas in central and southern Maine can expect to get 6 to 10 inches
3. Lewiston City Council heard a proposal for the city’s first 24-hour homeless shelter. The proposed shelter would house 24 people, providing access to services day and night.
4. A settlement has been reached between the U.S. Women’s soccer players’ dispute and U.S. Soccer over equal pay. The women will get $22 million in back pay and $2 million put aside for post-career charitable endeavors. Each player is entitled to up to $50,000 from the charity fund. The agreement also promised to pay both women’s and men’s national team members equally.
