1. President Trump signed an executive order to establish a national database of officers with excessive use-of-force complaints and give police departments financial incentives to adopt best practices. He did not address racism. Kristina Roth of Amnesty International said the order “amounts to a Band-Aid for a bullet wound.” (AP)
2. The U.S. Coronavirus cases top 2.1 million. America’s death toll stands at nearly 117,000. The number of Americans who have died from coronavirus now exceeds the number of U.S. soldiers who died in combat during World War I. States that reopened in early May, including Texas and Florida, are seeing spikes in the number of infections. The Maine CDC on Tuesday reported 9 new cases for a total of 2,819 of which 485 are active. No new deaths were reported, keeping the total to 101. (Press Herald)
3. Restaurants and gyms in all Maine counties can let customers back inside today. Other businesses like nail salons, tattoo parlors and fitness centers can also reopen. Bars and breweries can open for tastings and drinking outside. (WGME)
4. The city of Portland put out an alert Monday night reading, “Election workers needed for the July 14 election.” They received more than 100 applications overnight and Tuesday morning for the $12-an-hour jobs with no experience necessary. (WGME)
