1. Matthew McConaughey was at the White House on Tuesday, and he gave an emotional request for lawmakers to do something about gun control. McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas, the site of the most recent school mass shooting.
2. Maine’s COVID-19 hospitalizations declined Tuesday to 153. That’s a 34 percent drop from May 17, when Maine reported a three-month peak of 231 hospitalized patients.
3. Mainers can now check the status of their $850 relief payments using a new website from Maine Revenue Services. Eligible Mainers should expect to see their checks arrive in the weeks ahead. https://portal.maine.gov/refundstatus/payment
4. A team of marine scientists at the University of New England deployed a shark detection buoy on the coast of Maine on Tuesday. The buoy has a sensor that detects any tagged sharks as they pass through the area. It was placed between Old Orchard Beach and Ferry Beach State Park. This is the first one in the state that’s outfitted to send real-time alerts.
