1. Two Americans are dead and Two were found alive after being kidnapped in Mexico near the Texas border. The survivors were brought back to the U.S. by the FBI. Officials believe a Mexican cartel mistook the travelers for Haitian drug smugglers. (CNN)
2. A temporary shelter for asylum seekers was opened at the Salvation Army in Portland. The shelter has a capacity of 77 and was already full on its first night. Since Jan. 1, the city has seen 665 new asylum seekers arrive in need of shelter (PH)
3. A rabid racoon was found dead near Weymouth Road in Gray. Officials are reminding residents to license and vaccinate their pets and monitor them when they are let outdoors. (NCM)
